For the 2023-2024 season athletes ages 12 and 13 years of age are considered U14.

U14 athletes compete in the ‘Mud, Sweat 'n Gears' Series. The season starts with an in-council event (6 regional councils: RVW-Mountain-ADK-Central-GVSC-Niagara), and then competition moves to an East: (RVW-Mountain-ADK); and West (Central-GVSC-Niagara) series. All competitions are open events. Athletes begin racing within their council and then progress to East/West as the season progresses. U14 State Championships at the end of the season are open events. Selection for Eastern Regional Championships are selected from NYSSRA State Championships results. Selection and quotas will be found in the NYSSRA Competition Manual (available early fall 2023).

Athletes in this age group are continuing to work on strong skill development with the added blend of more competition.

Some simple skills for athletes moving up to U16:

Upper Lower body separation

Pressure in the fall-line-SL and Speed development

Strong inside half

All areas of skill development and disciplines are still on tap, just some basics to think about for solid skiing.
