Welcome to the Coach Spotlight

This is a space where passion for ski racing meets expert guidance and mentorship. Here at NYSSRA, our coaching team is at the heart of fostering skill, camaraderie, and a love for the slopes among our athletes.

With years of collective experience in ski racing, our coaches bring a wealth of knowledge to the table. From mastering the art of carving turns to refining race strategies, our team is dedicated to honing each athlete's technique and boosting their confidence on the course.

But coaching isn't just about the technical aspects of skiing. It's about fostering a sense of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. Our coaches are not only instructors but also role models who inspire a sense of dedication and perseverance in every skier they guide.

Whether you're an aspiring racer or a seasoned athlete, our Coach's Spotlight is your window into the insights, stories, and inspiration that drive our coaching philosophy. Join us in celebrating the achievements and contributions of our exceptional coaching team, and get ready to hit the slopes with renewed enthusiasm and skill."

Steve first started skiing at Killington at the age of 5. At that point he migrated over to Gore Mountain. Steve was not part of any structured race program at Gore but raced as a J1-2. Steve was coached by his Dad originally and trained with a few other friend athletes borrowing bamboo and setting up training environments on trails. Steve’s coaching resume is extensive during his 38 years in a row of commitment to the sport of alpine ski racing. His experience has covered U10/U12/U14/U16+ athletes, most of these years having been in the NYSEF Gore program. Most recently, Steve has been the head U10/U12 coach at Gore. His passion and work ethic has been significant working with coaches and athletes. Steve has also been a past member of NYSSRA Development Committees, NYSSRA High School Liaison, NYSPHSAA Section 2 Coordinator. Steve and his wife Caroline are also competitive sailing partners, which is now where you will find him most of the year. My personal experience with Steve is one of deep respect for his energy, knowledge, and love for coaching young athletes fostering development of the whole athlete. His shoes will be tough to fill now that he has announced his retirement, but wish Steve a great future in his next evolution in life!
