New Monthly Membership Meeting: Aug. 2nd with Barbara Cochran

NYSSRA Membership Sounding Ping!! Tune In!

We are excited to have Barbara Ann Cochran speak on

August 2,2021 at 7:00 PM

Barbara Ann Cochran is a former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist.

Barbara Ann is also a sports consultant and motivational speaker with her business, Barbara Ann Cochran Coaching.  Her desire is to help athletes, coaches, and parents blossom to the best of their abilities in the world of sports.

The best way to describe Barbara Ann’s relationship with sports is: it’s her religion. If you have a conversation with her regarding her passion, you will quickly find that she is well-versed in what it takes to be a top-performing athlete. She knows what to think and how to get your mind to cooperate with your body.

June Membership Meeting: Devin Delaney, Sports Nutrition and Fueling-for-Competition Presentation, June 21, 2021 7:00pm

Greetings from the Staff at NYSSRA!

Hope all have adjusted to the spring-summer like conditions and COVID getting smaller in the rear-view mirror.

NYSSRA will continue to offer Athlete - Coach - Parent presentations once a month throughout the year. These will generally take place in the evening at the beginning of a week. These presentations will cover a wide spectrum of information, delving into Conditioning, Nutrition, Mental game, Skill development, Athlete and Parent experiences.

We are excited to have Devin Delaney deliver a Nutrition and Fueling-for-Competition presentation. This is a huge component of athlete training! Without the right education and balance in nutrition, athletes cannot perform at their correct ability level.

Physical Prep for 2021-2022 Season

Preparation for alpine skiing is a must for all age groups. Not only will this allow you to produce a solid platform to develop and compete, but will help with injury prevention, and sets the stage mentally to train!

Over the course of the next few months you have the opportunity to make gains that will carry you into next season. We will post relevant pathways for individual age groups moving forward.

Development Committee Nominations

Nominations for development committees should be sent to [email protected] for U12/U14 Committee and to Katie Gilligan, [email protected], for the U16/19 Development Committee, with copies to the Administrative Director Alicia Farone at [email protected]. The Development Committees will then select from the nominations and present their selection to the Board of Directors.

Coaches must have at least three years coaching experience with the appropriate age group. We like to keep these committees as balanced as possible by both geography and gender. All nominations must be USSA and NYSSRA members in good standing with a minimum Level 100 Certification.

Our friends at Northwood School have big news! Congratulations Tommy!

From the Head of School, Michael Maher:

Dear Alpine Students and Families,

I am writing to you today to announce that I have appointed Tommy Biesemeyer as Director of Alpine Skiing.  Tommy is well-known within the racing community and locally. He joins Northwood after a storied career with 15 years of alpine racing, training, and coaching experience. For those who do not know Tommy, he is a resident of Keene, and like our student-athletes, he began skiing at the age of three. He had his first race at age seven when he joined the New York Ski Education Foundation (NYSEF) program.  At age 12, Biesemeyer competed in J3 and J4 races but always had sights set on the U.S. Ski Team. A victory at the '03 Junior Olympics started him down that path, and he then made his World Cup debut in 2010 and the Olympic Team in 2018.

As recently stated in October 2020 in the U.S. Ski & Snowboard, Tommy stepped away from racing to pursue new passions, which today brings him full circle to Northwood School, now miles from where he learned to ski at Whiteface Mountain.
