Message from the Alpine Sports Director

Greetings all! This has been an interesting last 6 months to say the least! NYSSRA Staff, BOD, and all Committees have been working together to address and plan for the upcoming season.

Hope all have had a chance to look at the new website; this is still a work in progress. Much is in the plans for this over the next few months but currently its effectiveness for communication to the entire NYSSRA family covering updates, current COVID information, education, club information, soon-to-be posted schedules and projects along with other membership, and coach spotlights- are a few of the areas to be developed with more depth shortly.

I would like to take this opportunity to go over a few NYSSRA projects on the planning table:

-Covid Response Team

-Competition schedule

US Ski & Snowboard Guidelines for COVID-19

U.S. Ski & Snowboard has recently updated their guidelines for the upcoming 2020-2021 season regarding COVID-19 awareness and safety, including a guide to returning to competition after testing COVID positive. Please check out the documents below and check out the rest of the US Ski & Snowboard site if you have any further questions.

Message from NYSSRA president, Brad Rauch

Dear NYSSRA Members,

As the days grow shorter we traditionally begin to turn our minds to the next season of ski racing across the state.  I’m sure this year many are just wondering how and who will be educating our children.   But as we think about skiing the equipment comes out of storage and we size up our athletes to see who has grown and who can get one more year out last years “stuff”.

With the onset of COVID -19 that cut our season short last year, the NYSSRA Board has been busy throughout the summer with the appointment of a new Alpine Sports Director, Steve Mergenthaler,  a new Administrative Director, Alicia Farone, a new website (check out NYSSRA.org ) and continual work from our various committees (development, coaches and COVID-19) drafting plans, (A, B and C) that will help lay out what will no doubt be a different kind of ski racing season across New York State.

Coach Updates

We are planning on two Coaches Education Clinics this spring.

These are all one day events at Gore Mountain April 10-11

Level 100 at Gore Mountain April 10-11 2021 limited to 20 per day

Additionally for a CED (continuing education credit),  we will offer a 1 day environment setting clinic at Gore April 11, 2021. Limited to 10 per day

Please send your intent to [email protected] by March 29, 2021 (Cost and registration will be emailed with intent)

Message from the Program Directors

Want to thank all of our Athletes, Members, Programs, Areas, BOD, Committees, Sponsors, and support groups for the super season in 2019-20.

We are all still reeling from the effects that the COVID virus brought on us, and are moving ahead to plan for any adaptation to Local, State, Regional, and National directives. We will keep you updated on this as we move forward, but at this point NYSSRA is planning full steam ahead! We will be getting information out during the month of August and September regarding early season fundamental projects and Coaches education clinics.

As stated above the new website is a fluid project, very cool content will be added as we move through the next month or two. But in general this is a great new addition to NYSSRA! Want to thank the Board of Directors, Development Committees, and other key players, this effort will be a step into the next phase of communication with all athletes, members, coaches, officials, sponsors, and all support pathways. Cheers!

Ski fast, laugh much!

Merg out!
