NYSSRA February Central Council Skill Projects

NYSSRA had the opportunity on February 7-9th to work with Labrador Ski Club (at Labrador Mountain) for Central Council providing sessions of skill development.  The U12's were on February 7th, U14/16/18's on the 8th, and unfortunately weather was a bump in the road for the 9th and the ski area closed for our last session.

Regardless of missing the the last day, sessions accomplished were a positive experience for athletes and coaches. Great turn out from Labrador and Greek Peak with coaches in attendance to help and collaborate. U12's focused on athleticism and adaptation, along with how pole usage can help with initiation, timing and rhythm. The U14/16/18's focused on SL skills with a challenge in quick feet, lateral movement, upper/lower body separation, re-centering, edging and pressure for short radius turns.

Both nights started with activation and a free skiing challenge that got the athletes attention to lower body dynamic movement, this brought them into the focused session for a progression in environments that built on the theme for the afternoon/ evening. We want to thank Rick Downing, Tyler Travis, Labrador Ski Area, and coaches in attendance for working together to make a great two nights of training for all. It takes a village!!

Looking forward to getting out to Niagara Council in two weeks!!

Merg Out!

Cheers!
