Although the Mother Nature has been a bit finicky this fall, the snow gods smiled on our NYSSRA Coaches Clinic this year. Based out of the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid NY with the on snow portion at Whiteface Mountain. The on snow portion experienced bluebird skis and early season surfaces. Groups skied from the top of chair six to the bottom of the mountain with groups led by USSS Coaches education instructors along with our National Coaches Education leader Bill Whitcher. Coaches skied from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM covering basic fundamental development along with some good mileage. Classroom sessions covered:
-Stop the bleed Royce Van Evera NYSSRA Officials Committee
-Race day stress and cues for help Kathy Okoniewski USSS National Coaches Education (ret)
-Tuning Tips and Perspectives Bradley Beach
-Jr. Skill development Stephen Mergenthaler NYSSRA - Aaron Dewey NYSSRA
-Planning for success Chuck Harris Technical Director
-Race run - multiple day recovery Don Del Negro Boston Bruins Trainer (ret)
-Jr. Development roundtable Beatty Schlueter Norton NYSEF - Andrew Weibrecht WC Athlete (ret) - Stephen Mergenthaler
-Updates from Alpine Sport Committee John Norton Alpine Sport Committee
This was great opportunity for coaches and received USSS Sport Education credit along with some great sharing of knowledge.
NYSSRA will expand this initiative next fall with an October in class presentations followed with a 2 day on snow in late November early December for the 2023-2024 season.
