Welcome to the 2022-2023 season with NYSSRA!

Welcome back to our returning families. To our new members, welcome to  the NYSSRA community. This incredible summer has been very HOT and very DRY. The NYSSRA Board of directors are preparing for what is surely heading our way - SNOW and COLD. The NYSSRA team has been working hard since the snow melted. Steve Mergenthaler and Alicia Farone have been doing a great job moving the board forward, getting schedules completed, camps organized and host mountains ready to put on great events. If you see this dynamic duo, thank them. They deserve it.
There are exciting things on the horizon and I look forward to seeing you on snow soon.

If you have any concerns, questions or suggestions, please reach out. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Enjoy The View
Enjoy The Journey,

Todd Glick

Update from the Alpine Sports Director

Greetings all! Hope all have had a great summer and are gearing up for the ski season. The leaves are already changing in the ‘Dacks and programs are beginning to fire up information and updates they have for you.

NYSSRA has been hard at work this summer, Committees, BOD, and Staff have been working on improvements in programming, structure, and communication. I will give you an overview of what has been going on and what to expect.

With the new bylaws passed this spring the governance / procedures committee has been defining committee structures, and additional operating procedures that steer all aspects of our organization. These will be updated in the NYSSRA manual when completed this fall.

The 2023 U14 and U16+ competition schedule is primarily set and is attached to this newsletter. U12 schedule will be updated next week.

Childrens Committee has met several times to set up a schedule for competition and development that incorporates a healthy blend of both. They have  presented best practices for U12 and under athletes and are diving into key development factors that this age group needs to address. See attached link to our best practice document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/12ICKmYhqY8kf_5_3-3vJDI3qbwW3n0YWJ-h4To_VvG8/edit

The Development Committee has produced an effective competition schedule that allows for training intervals through the season. And similar to the Children’s Committee, they are assessing key development focuses for this age group.

Coaches Education Committee in collaboration with the Alpine Sports Director, has put together another effective schedule for the fall and early season events. Continuing with Zoom presentations and the addition this season of an on-snow, along with indoor presentations at the Olympic Training Center, in Lake Placid NY. Dates will be listed at the end of this update. Content will be centered around key performance markers and junior speed development.

Alpine Officials Committee has been working hard under our new Chair, Steve Burgart, to share responsibilities among the specific talent in the group. This will help with many aspects of scheduling, education, and certification. Updates and testing dates are expected to be up by the end of September. NYSSRA again wants to thank Bill Dewey for his leadership over the last few years as Chair. NYSSRA is looking to bring new officials into the mix this season at all levels; this is critical to sustain our sport.

Dates are still being determined and will post with registration information by September 15, 2022.
