Mud Sweat and Gears

U14 athletes are still on a strong pathway toward skill development. The addition of developing the mindset to compete, integrated with open State Championships as an opportunity for all U14's, reduces the stress of qualifying to qualify to qualify and promotes the focus of skill while tactical development takes center stage.

U14's will also begin the progression of speed development through Super-G. Accomplished with regional training and progressions with options to race if it fits their schedule and program management.

Some simple skills for athletes moving up to U16 (Key Performance Markers-KPM)

  • Upper Lower body separation
  • Pressure in the fall-line-SL and Speed development
  • Strong inside half

All areas of skill development and disciplines are still on tap just some basics to make sure are solid.

2021 U14 Open State Championships

Speed Events

  • Pull SG out to it’s own event weekend in February
  • 3 day event open to all NYSSRA U14 athletes
  • 1 day training Girls and Boys
  • 1 day Girls training run & race
  • 1 day Boys training run & race

**Athletes MUST have participated in a 2 day speed camp leading up to this event (a weekend prior) to be held 1 in the East & 1 in the West.

Seeding for start order will be determined by first weekend tech events results, will have A/B seeds, randomized within seed.

It is recommended that there will be an event scheduled for the non-racing gender, if they are not needed for a slip protocol.

Tech Events

  • 3 day event for GS & SL events
  • 1 day Girls/Boys SL
  • 1 day Girls GS
  • 1 day Boys GS

Strongly recommended that Boys participate in skills assessment during Girls GS race day, and Girls participate in skills assessment during Boys GS race day.

Strongly recommend the SL race be held on the final day, with a banquet the night before to include all athletes.

Athletes must participate in 2 Mud Sweat n’ Gears Cup events to attend U14 states tech weekend.

Seeding (A/B/C/D) will be determined by taking top 5/12 possible results, and athletes will be randomized within each seed.

Official NYSSRA SG awards will be given out at this banquet, with the understanding that athletes will be recognized at SG event, and encourage area hosting SG to hand out “unique” awards at that time.
